Keyboard warriors mansplaining Boomers are you still complaining? Body shaming, victim-blaming I feel my battery draining [Chorus:] No notifications, My signal is weak I see you in real life But we hardly ever speak No notifications, On read then delete I’ll be off the grid when my traffic hits a peak Does my platform help your brand grow? Feed lights up with Hashtag FOMO Influential? LMAO! All you ever do is follow [Repeat chorus] I don’t want to interact With alright Jacks, who don’t need facts Gimme red-faced, powerless angry reacts But don’t bother to @ cos I won’t hit you back Swipe and scroll, tag and troll Now my memory is full Dystopia has gone viral It’s all here on this little glowing Rectangle [Repeat chorus]
2.
Why’s no one buying my beats? Why’s no one reading my Tweets? Why can’t I find my one thousand fans And dominate my niche? Almost non-existent reach But my mum says I’m unique Tell me who I have to ---- To get in with your clique? [Chorus:] You’re still holding forth on the fact You once had a chat with THE Steve Lamacq Some little venue, standing at the back, Sipping a pint before the headline act Lovely guy, polite and that He even said he’d listen to a couple of tracks Dan Ek’s operating at cost, While we all keep making a loss If the songs that you sing don't keep you in strings Promote it on @musicboss Star-struck and ever star-crossed Constantly skipping through dross Living the dream, counting the streams How desperate do I come across? [Repeat Chorus] Excuse me, I think you just dropped a name Put down the handbook, quit the game It’s who you know, not much has changed That’s why I only ever do it out of love and never for the fame I think you just dropped a name… [Final Chorus:] You’re still holding forth on the fact You once had a chat with THE Steve Lamacq Some little venue, standing at the back, Sipping a pint before the headline act Lovely guy, polite and that You said you liked his show, he said he liked your hat He even said he’d listen to, even said he’d listen to He even said he’d listen to a couple of tracks Steve Lamacq

I believe that one of each would be just right Let me guess the reason you’re not drinking tonight Wow, you’ve got your hands full In your condition, not sensible Did you plan for this or was it a surprise? You won’t know what’s hit you when the little one arrives Is it pink or could it be blue? You’re not getting any younger are you? [Chorus:] At least you’ve already got one Adversity will make you stronger in the long run Don’t you know you’re not the only one with problems? Perhaps it wasn’t meant to happen Obviously there must have been something wrong Probably a blessing you weren’t too far along Same thing happened to a friend of mine Mother Nature said it’s not your time Just a clump of cells, it wasn’t really real You can try again, or adopting might appeal It’s just bad luck, it could be stress It’s all in the Lord’s plan I guess [Repeat Chorus] Here’s what not to say Here’s what not to say Here’s what not to say I tolerate these platitudes every single day Here’s what not to say Here’s what not to say Here’s what not to say I’m gradually healing, but it never goes away [Repeat Chorus]
4.
Rule Britannia, rule the waves Built upon the broken backs of the slaves Ruling the waves, oh Britannia We’ve had so long but we’ve not come far… [Chorus:] It’s history, or so they say I’m still waiting for the tide to change This legacy of so much pain Rise on up like a renegade Land of the free, home of the brave, The poor are damned and the rich are saved Home of the brave, land of the free Democidal hypocrisy [Repeat Chorus] I’m a renegade… Cruel Britannia, taking slaves, Claiming colonies, filling graves, Lining their pockets with the riches they made This ill-gotten wealth is what made Britain "great" Shot down if you dare to dream Of an equal right to live and breathe, Enshrine injustice in the Thirteenth, So Black Lives matter less than white privilege and greed [Repeat Chorus] I’m a renegade…

about

Anger is a natural human emotion with things to teach us. It feels good to express anger in creative, non-violent ways.

Track 1: 'No Notifications' is a song about digital overwhelm and online toxicity, written from a place of despair amidst the constant pinging of
WhatsApp messages and the relentless triggers of social media life.

Track 2: '(5 Mutual Friends with) Steve Lamacq' is a tongue-in-cheek critique of a music industry that often sidelines and exploits independent creatives.

Track 3: 'What Not to Say' is a feminist song written in solidarity with all femmes who have endured intrusive comments regarding their reproductive status. CONTENT WARNING: Allusions to baby loss.

Track 4: 'Renegade (Cruel Britannia)' was inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement. It is an anti-racist song drawing attention to how little has changed in British and American society since the times of slavery.

about

Askingfriend Chelmsford, UK

Askingfriend is the solo project of reclusive introvert Kat Torrie, who has been making up songs for most of her life. Through decades of wrestling with rock-bottom self-esteem, music remained a lifeline. In 2018, compelled to reach out in kind to other sensitive souls, Kat taught herself music production and began embracing her neurodivergent creativity. ... more
